Celestial Navigation head-to-head challenge

Roohif and John aka Refracted Curvature have agreed to a live head-to-head challenge where each person is given a unique set of star angle measurements and will demonstrate by way of example how celestial navigation determines the location fix on their asserted earth shape.

The demonstration is to focus solely on the participant’s asserted earth shape. The purpose of this demonstration is to show how the participant’s asserted earth shape positively works. Each participant is encouraged to present diagrams, calculations, geometry, data sources, and other relevant information used to obtain the fix.

Participants are allowed to have assistance working the example, generating the demonstration, verifying work, or other activities prior to the live presentation.

The star elevation measurements were presented to both participants on 2022-07-13 before 10pm US Eastern time. John was given first choice of the set of measurements to claim, he deferred by not making a choice within 24 hours, so Roohif chose set #2. Screenshot included.

Each set of star angle measurements and the latitude/longitude have been stored in a text file, along with a screenshot of the location in Google Maps. A SHA512 hash of the file with the latitude/longitude has been generated for each set and are listed below. The files have also been zipped with a password and are linked below.

After each participant has completed their presentation the password for the associated zip file will be published.
