Predictions for the properties of the magnetic field of the earth.
Globe predictions are from the calculator here: https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/geomag/calculators/magcalc.shtml#igrfwmm
Globe maps are here: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/products/world-magnetic-model
The globe predicts that the magnetic field strength will be least in Santiago and stronger the farther from Santiago. The 0 inclination line goes through Peru. In Minneapolis, Atlanta, Miami the north end will point down. Santiago, Punta Arenas, Union Glacier the south end will point down.
The flat earth predicts that the magnetic field strength is maximal at the north magnetic pole and reducing farther away, minimum at Union Glacier. The inclination is always north end down. Reducing farther south, but never will the south end of the needle point down.
The iPhone app “Magnetometer” reads the total field strength. As does the custom written Magnetometer app developed by Andreas Tofahrn for The Final Experiment. It runs on an M5AtomS3 with the IMUPro package. Here is the source code: 20241208-AccMagTFE.py
I will be using the dip compass and M5AtomS3 to measure the inclination of the magnetic field, and the Magnetometer app on iPhone and the M5AtomS3 to measure the total field strength.
